SDNYC Meeting - November 18, 2015

On November 18, we will hold our final general membership meeting of the year with an expert panel discussion by Transgender & Gender Non- Conforming advocates and leaders from across the five boroughs. The meeting will take place two days prior to the nationally recognized Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDoR), where we remember those we have lost to senseless violence and look forward to the work we have to do to achieve full equality for our community. 

Our panelists will discuss topics including employment, health, education, violence and more. They will also discuss the Black Lives Matter movement and the continued uptick in violence against the Transgender community, specifically Transgender Women of Color.

Inmigración y la Comunidad LGBT de Nueva York / Immigration and NYC's LGBT Community

On October 28th, SDNYC will host an panel discussion immigration issues in NYC and their impact on the LGBT Community including NYPD's involvement in immigration issues, asylum in NYC, detention facilities and how City agencies can help address LGBT immigration issues.

Un panel de expertos discutirá cuestiones relacionadas con inmigración en la cuidad de Nueva York y su impacto en la comunidad LGBT incluyendo la participación NYPD en cuestiones de inmigración, asilo político en la cuidad de Nueva York, los centros de detención y como agencias de la cuidad pueden trabajar con la comunidad LGBT en cuestiones de inmigración.

Opening remarks will be provided by special guest:

We will also be joined by Aaron Soriano, LGBT Community Organizer -IDNYC Program, NYC Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs who will share a brief update on efforts of the City’s Municipal ID program (ID NYC) to reach LGBT Immigrant New Yorkers.

Next SDNYC General Membership Meeting

Please join us on Wednesday, September 30th at 8:00 PM at the LGBT Center in Manhattan for our next meeting. We are excited to share that SDNYC will be joined by NYC's Human Rights Commissioner Carmelyn Malalis who will share an update on the Commission’s work to ensure that the NYC Human Rights Law is enforced Citywide and on the Commission’s ongoing efforts to serve the LGBT Community.

SDNYC's next general membership meeting will be at 8PM on Wednesday, September 30th at the LGBT Center in Manhattan. We will be joined by NYC's Human Rights Commissioner Carmelyn Malalis to hear about the Commission’s work to ensure that the NYC Human Rights Law is enforced and the Commission’s ongoing efforts to serve the LGBT Community.
